The active auction of the IPL brings great interest before every season of the IPL.
Every year, all eight franchises compete to choose their dream team in hopes of winning the trophy.
However, apart from the selected players, there are players who are released every year or are traded between two franchises.
The current season is going on and certainly, some players have done wonders, while some have turned it around. Let us see which players may not be retained by the franchise in the next season IPL 2021.
1. Chris Woakes (Delhi Capitals)
At the base price of INR 1.5 crore in December auction, Delhi Capitals took on leading English all-rounder Chris Woakes. With his ability to take wickets in the Powerplay, Woakes was fully expected to support players like Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada.
But Chris Woakes decided to opt-out of the IPL 2020 to focus on his international career. Even later in the year, Woakes decided against participating because then he was expecting the arrival of his child.
The Capitol eventually replaced him with South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who became a super finder for the franchise. In his 9 matches this season, Anrich Nortje shocked his pace with 12 wickets at an economy of 7.75.
In such a situation, Delhi seems to have found their bowler and will rarely bet on Vox.
2. Mitchell McClenaghan (Mumbai Indians)
In the IPL 2020, it was crystal clear that McClenaghan would compete for his place with more seam-bowling options. Trent Bolt, Lasith Malinga and Nathan Culter-Nile have made it as the first choice.
In addition, James Pattinson is also performing well.
3. Umesh Yadav (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
This season, however, things are looking quite different with Chris Morris and Isuru Udana joining the team. Both veterans have done well to limit RCB's young, home fast bowling attack and have largely limited the run-flow in the death overs.
The 32-year-old fast bowler got a chance in RCB's first two matches of the season but was expensive which soon forced captain Virat Kohli to take him to the bench. He has not played for them since, and with Navdeep Saini and Mohammad Siraj both going well in the end, it is not surprising if Umesh has played his final game for RCB.
4. Tom Banton (Kolkata Knight Riders)
But the abundance of top-order batsmen has created a new problem for the Knight Riders. The management's approach in trying different batsmen according to the situation has not allowed any opener to stay with Gill. The uncertainty clearly reflects the team's youth batting line-up; Most of the batsmen have been disappointingly inconsistent this season.
Banton is the 21-year-old English opener most affected by the frequent changes in the batting line-up. Apart from his two innings for KKR, the young Somerset batsman batted as an opener and scored just 18 runs. The team is focusing on investing in local talent and in such a situation it may be better to leave Banton.
5. Krishnappa Gautam (Kings XI Punjab)
But given how the Gautam has performed this IPL 2020, KXIP has the right to be disappointed. In his two appearances, Gautham has claimed just one wicket at an average of 84. Even in terms of batting, his contribution has not been very useful; Of the 42 runs he has scored this year, none have come due to victory.
The team seems to have already taken on Murugan Ashwin as their second spin-bowling option. It is very unlikely that he will retain his place in the team for the next season.
6. Jaydev Unadkat (Rajasthan Royals)
Unadkat has not been completely disappointed on the wicket-taking front; He has taken 25 wickets in 33 matches.
But their economy rate is very high. Recently, he dipped the team's against RCB by giving more than 25 runs an over. With the presence of youngsters like Karthik Tyagi and Akash Singh, his sad time on RR has finally come to an end.
7. Siddharth Kaul (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
But apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the team has still not been able to compromise on a certain, Indian fast-bowler candidate. Attempts by T Natarajan, Khalil Ahmed, Basil Thampi, Sandeep Sharma and Siddarth Kaul have been liked, but none of them has been consistently proven.
So it is natural for the team to vacate that bench-space and expand their options. At the moment, looking at Kaul, he seems to be at least missing. Punjab-Pesar was crucial to SRH's success in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, taking 37 wickets in total.
But he has not repeated his wicket-taking form in the last two seasons and has been quite expensive. As a result, he is struggling to get a place in the playing XI.
