IPL 2020 | MS Dhoni To Virat Kohli | Salaries Of Captains

Captain Virat Kohli, the only player to represent the single franchise RCB in every IPL season, is also IPL's highest earner.


IPL 2020 will mark the comeback of cricketers back to the field after 6 months. 

The Indian captain Virat Kohli-led side had last played against New Zealand earlier this year (2020). The ODI series against South Africa was postponed after the 1st washed-out game.

RCB Captain Virat Kohli: 17 crore

The highest-paid player in the history of IPL, Virat Kohli was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a mega-amount of Rs 17 crore, Rs 2 Crore more than the highest retention price.

MI Captain Rohit Sharma: 15 Crore

The most successful IPL captain with four title wins, Rohit Sharma was retained by Mumbai Indians for  Rs 15 crore. Reports had suggested that Rohit Sharma could have earned the same amount as Kohli but he decided against it. The right-handed batsman Rohit Sharma had first joined Mumbai Indians in 2011.

CSK Captain MS Dhoni: 15 Crore

The most consistent captain in IPL, MS Dhoni was Chennai Super Kings' first-choice retention in IPL 2008. MS Dhoni has a salary of Rs 15 crore in each IPL season. Under MS Dhoni, CSK has won the IPL trophy 3 times and have played 8 IPL finals.

RR Captain Steve Smith: 12 Crore

The former Australia captain Steve Smith was retained by RR for Rs 12 crore in 2018. However, Smith missed out on earning that amount due to the one-year cricket ban. Steve Smith returned to IPL 2019 and also took over the captaincy from Rahane, who was sacked mid-season. Smith was reinstated as the team's full-time captain for IPL 2020.

SRH Captain David Warner: 12 Crore

Smith's former deputy in Australia, Warner also has a salary of Rs 12 crore. He played under Kane Williamson in 2019 and is set to lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad-based team in IPL 2020. With 692 runs in 12 matches, David Warner won the Orange Cap in 2019.

KXIP Captain KL Rahul: 11 Crore

One of the tops picks in IPL 2018 auction, KL Rahul had joined Kings XI Punjab for Rs 11 crore. As many as four teams were interested in buying him and in the end, Kings XI Punjab made the winning bid of Rs 11 crore. KL Rahul has scored 1252 runs for them, striking at 146.60.

KKR Captain Dinesh Karthik: 7.4 crore

Back in 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders were expected to hand over the charge to Robin Uthappa but the team management pulled off a surprise by handing the captaincy to Dinesh Karthik. He had joined Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 7.4 crore. Dinesh had drawn bids from Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings.

DC Captain Shreyas Iyer: 7 Crore

The third and last player to be retained by Delhi Capitals in 2018, Shreyas Iyer was a surprise pick for captaincy as many expected Rishabh Pant, who had led Delhi to the Ranji Trophy final a few months ago, favourite for the job. In 2019, Delhi Capitals finally ended their poor run and made it to the second round for the 1st since 2012.
